Portland, OR, garage based Funk Rock.
Rabid Wombat started as a collaboration between college friends. The group was originally an attempt to adapt the solo acoustic act of lead singer Kevin Galagan into a full band format, but it quickly grew into much more. Finding their own unique sound and writing new material, RW performed all over the Portland Metro area, forming strong relationships with a wide variety of venues and other local bands.
As their set list grew it became apparent that the time had come for a debut CD. The self titled 12 song album was recorded, mixed and mastered by Kevin Hahn, at Opal Studios in Portland. Amazingly the band was able to capture 90 percent of the final product in a single take, giving the album a powerful sense of authenticity, and delivering a product which fans of the live show would both recognize and appreciate.
After a brief hiatus in the Spring of 2012 the band returned to playing live shows, and started work on their second album. Mixing in excellent covers with new originals, the set ballooned to over 3 hours, allowing RW to play more solo shows and late night venues. Now, with over half of their 2nd album written, it's starting to look like the band will be ready for a release in the first half of 2013. The new material is high energy, with epic dynamic shifts and soaring vocal lines, it's also 100% Rabid Wombat originals.
What's next for the group? More shows, more recording, more Rabies!! If you haven't caught the act, you are missing something special.
