Maria Winther is a Swedish musician, vocalist and composer . She released her debut album "Dreamsville" on the label Opus3records in 2006 with a handfull of Sweden's finest musicians; Gösta Rundqvist, Joakim Milder, Christian Spering and Ola Hultgren. Her second album "The Heart's Journey" (2011) is a duo recording with pianist/composer Gösta Rundqvist and is part of a compilation of Mr Rundqvist's life works; "One Tone One Life".
Ms. Winther holds a degree in jazz/improvisation from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm and has studied with Anders Jormin, Marie Bergman, Iréne Sjögren to mention a few. Ms. Winther has performed internationally in Italy, Great Britain, Germany, Iceland and at some of the most prestigeous venues in Sweden. She has also performed with The "Dreamsville Band", Gustav Karlöf, Lawrence D "Butch" Morris, Carl Bagge and Brandon Ross among others. She has appeared on both National TV and radio.
"Spiritual" is a collaboration project with New York based duo "For Living Lovers"- Brandon Ross on guitars and Stomu Takeishi on acoustic bass guitar.
The music is ethereal with improvised elements and builds around devotional poetry and lyrics written by Ms. Winther. The music travels in open landscapes, through light and darkness, dancing like fireflies right to the heart...
