Da Phenomenon was born Jonathan Garland in Jackson Mississippi on June 25 1985, his great grandmother gave him the name Jon Jon. Jon Jon grew up in the mean drug invested streets of Downtown Jackson Mississippi on Dryfus street, he later moved to Lamar St. Jon Jon learned at a young age that he was going to have to do something extraordinary to make it out of his city, which at that time had no one or people in the industry other than Blues players. His love for music began when he started playing snare drum at Rowan middle school, then to Lanier High school. In the late mid 90"s Jon Jon began freestyleing on cassette tapes from side to side. In 1998, he formed a click with other hood stars titled D.T.S aka Down Town Souljaz. After years of struggling in Jackson to get the rightfully deserved recognition he started to travel to the East Coast to get some exposure and expand his network. Jon Jon made his mark on the streets in 1999 at the age 14 when he produced and released his first solo hit titled I Pick Leaf. In 2004 the group (D.T.S) dropped their first mix tape titled Vol 1, which was shortly followed with Vol 2 in 2005 setting the streets on fire with the underground hit Mississippi Mic Breakers over the nuck if your buck beat. Also that year artist of D.T.S all released solo projects, Jon Jon released his first official mix tape titled Da Phenomenon, which was followed by Mix tape Vol 3 and his second solo mix tape, Flood Da Streets in late 06. In 2007 Jon Jon came to the East Coast where he released his first official solo album Titled Graduated 2 Da Pros. In 2008 Da Phenomenon torched the streets with his third Classis solo 27 track mix tape titled Hood Platinum which is up for free download at Datpiff.com. Since then he struggled with group members to carry out a plan which they started in their childhood years. Dedicated to music, Jon Jon chose to carry on and be the official voice of Downtown releasing over 4 group, and 5 solo mix tapes. In late 2010 Jon Jon went solo and released over 15 solo free styled mix tapes. Jon Jon is known as Mississippi’s best kept secret, and one of the greatest premier underground rappers from the South. He was also known for being one of the first youngest rappers in Jackson to ever record on cd, which was helped manage by his big cousin’s name Sean Gordon, Jonathan Davis, and Joe Pugh. These guys would put Jon Jon in the studio for hours and make him freestyle in the dark while surrounding and punching him if he messed up. From their doing they realized that Jon Jon was special and had special abilities that they never seen in other artists and called him a phenomenon, as they knew if they could keep him focus he could be one of the greatest of all time. There has never been any one known today that could freestyle longer or better than Da Phenomenon. Da Phenomenon shut the scene down 2008 in Washington D.C. when he opened up for Yung Buck, pulling up in a 50 foot snow white Navigator at Club Fur. Jon Jon has traveled on his own budget performing in Street Magazine, and Source Magazine events, Jackson, Tugaloo, multiple cities in northern Virginia, various cities in Maryland, every popping club in Washington D.C., and Brooklyn New York.
