Shades of August is a 5 piece band from Dover, Delaware that is blurring the lines between modern and classic rock. Their brilliant song writing and soul-drenched lyrics stand out in a sea of cookie cutter, processed songs and display a diversity of both style and emotion. The proof is in Justified; a fan voted favorite by listeners of the Georgetown, De station, 93.5 the Beach’s Local Produce show. Winning by a margin of 100 votes, it claimed the title of 2012 Song of the Year and joined the ranks of other heavily requested SOA tunes, like the military inspired Soldier Song and Mary Brown.
Often compared to bands such as 3 Doors Down, their sound is a result of influences that are as varied as the members themselves. From AC/DC to Matchbox Twenty and a plethora in between, they manage to forge a unique sound that captures both raw and emotional storytelling.
While they are best known for their original songs, SOA isn’t afraid to cross over into the traditional arena of covers. A constantly evolving set list keeps them on the speed dial of many local venues and has their audiences waiting to hear what will be next. They have played larger venues like Philadelphia’s Lincoln Financial Field and will take the stage at this year’s mega-concert, the 35th Annual June Jam in Milford, Delaware. Currently, they are splitting their time between an ever-growing show schedule in the Delaware/Maryland area and writing their sophomore CD, “What Doesn’t Kill You”. In mid- May, they will begin shooting their first full length video for Mary Brown in Shreveport, Louisiana.
