Alex was born in the former Soviet Union in the town of Gomel, Belarus. He began singing at a very early age, long before he learned to speak. Soon after he started school, Alex was accepted into the school's award winning chorus. Often Alex would perform as a soloist singing in Russian and Belorussian.
At the age of 8 Alex attempted to get enrolled in a music school to learn to play the accordion, however he was turned down due to "being really short" as one music teacher had pointed out. No music school would ever see Alex as its student again. When he was 11, Alex began to play the acoustic guitar. His uncle, a well-known musician in Belarus, taught Alex guitar chords, and from that point on Alex learned to play songs by ear using different strumming techniques. Alex constantly performed solo with guitar at concerts, festivals and competitions. Alex and his family left for the States in 1991 when Alex was only 15 years old.
Having landed in NYC, Alex has had the privilege to work in numerous TV and Film projects and the opportunity to meet wonderful and talented actors and filmmakers. One of Alex's recent works is Jason Cortlund and Julia Halperin's Feature Film "Now, Forager" where Alex plays Sergey, the Russian mushroom hunter. The film had been screened at international film festivals as well as Lincoln Center and MoMA. Other works include a starring role in Yelena Sabel's "Sex, Blood and Fairy Tales", Curro Sanchez' Feature "Private moments", Octavio Mac Niven's Independent Film "A New York Fairy Tale" and History Channel’s "Jesus' Resurrection".
Alex has been extensively involved in sketch comedy and is a member of "Actor's Project NYC". His recent theater work includes the roles of Jack in "Boys' Life", Ben in "Mercy Seat", Adam in "The Shape of Things", Lamar in "Godspell" and Misha in "Lydia".
Alex had taken Meisner Technique with Robert Verlaque at T. Schreiber Studios, studied Monologue Technique and Sketch Comedy with Bobby Holder (The Actor’s Project NYC), Auditioning for Commercials with Bobby Holder and Casting Directors David Cady and Liz Lewis. Alex had also had Vocal training with Marissa Katz and Adam Roebuck (Roebuck Productions) and Musical Theater Audition Technique with Casting Director Dale Brown (Tara Rubin Casting). And of course the Business of Acting with Gwyn Gillis, Betsy Capes and Bobby Holder.
