"West's voice invokes angels, if angels had a dangerous side."
~ North Coast Journal, Arcata CA - 2014
Fourth generation Californian Corinne West, now residing in the redwood forests of the California coast, has been described as "the Siren of the Sierras" by a columnist from the San Francisco area Times-Herald; and for good reason. Corinne's powerful and eloquent voice, coupled with her finely crafted songs, has earned her a unique identity within the global acoustic roots music scene. Noted by Relix Magazine for her "voice of gold", her singing is at once like honey, velvety-night wine and smooth open-desert sage. The notable Bob Harris of BBC radio raved "I love Corinne's music and truly believe in her as an artist. She has spirit, integrity and talent. I am a massive fan.”
Corinne's sound is informed by the nomadic and varied roads she has traveled. At 15, she left home with guitar in hand to travel America in a converted school bus. In Los Angeles, as a teen, she sang in an edgy rock-n-roll band, studied theatre in her mid-twenties, restored bi-plane wings, built custom curved walls as a river rock mason in the rural mountains of California, and opened a fine art business in glass and metal with a blacksmith in the lonesome High Sierras. Though inspired by many art forms, it was clear that music was the only medium she couldn't walk away from, so in 2002, she turned completely to it.
The Liverpool Echo categorized Corinne's sound as "elegant new sexy acoustic jazz-rock-folk", while others have named it "west-coast acoustic soul, elegant, laced with grace". Amidst the echoes of small towns and curious roads less traveled, her writing reveals her skill to paint with song, the dimensional landscapes of a gifted lyricist. By any name, her music is compelling, passionate, with a cool, layered-yet-driven sound - referring to both the strength of her writing and the expressive power of her voice. This, coupled with her magnetic stage presence, creates captivating music and an electric performance; garnering her rave reviews throughout the world.
In 2011, after 10 years of full-time touring, and on the back-end of a two-year project in a duo with Kelly Joe Phelps, Corinne took a sabbatical from music to do an Artist in Residency in Wels, Austria (while living in a village in the Alpine mountains). There, inspired by the staggering beauty of Austria, she immersed herself in the art forms she loved before music became her focus, (fine-art, graphic design, installation). The intermission has now brought her full-circle, (with a certificate in Alchemical Hypnotherapy), richly informing the music she is currently writing and performing, while integrating the diverse terrain of her talent and creativity.
Corinne will be releasing her 5th recording in the Fall of 2014.
