The Broken Lines is a two-piece, Minneapolis, MN-based band fronted by singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Rocky Steen and thrash metal/studio drummer Heath Splitt. Their diverse musical backgrounds create a sound that merges folk, acoustic, ambient, experimental, and metal to create songs with a unique sound and a solid, driving groove. Rocky Steen's smooth and powerful voice delivers her engaging and rich lyrics with intensity and passion, and her expertly crafted songwriting weaves a sonic wave of catchy hooks and bridges that audiences can immediately identify with. Drummer Heath Splitt's solid, dynamic grooves, mixed with occasional bursts of thrash metal speed and extended drum solos are a refreshing reminder of drummers like Rush's Neil Peart, Tool's Danny Carey, and Slayer's Dave Lombardo, characters who he freely evokes and channels throughout portions of their live set. Their show is equal parts theatrics and great musicianship, performed by accomplished, skilled musicians. There's even audience-participation numbers in their set that include sing-along choruses and the musicians themselves making their way around the bar, playing to the tables of folks on the appropriately named 'Drinkin' Song' (a bar favorite)! They also occasionally invite 'guest musicians' to step in and contribute their skills, which keeps their material fresh and interesting, and ensures that sure no two shows are ever the same! The end result are stories told in song that provide a beautiful and engaging listening experience, and are just plain fun to sing along with!
