This is not one of those bios where I try to make it sound like someone else wrote it. It’s just me being straight up.
I’m a singer/songwriter – producer. I love music. So do most people. Some have music in their heads. I’m one of those. I grew up listening to my Dad’s old RECORDS! I think I learned early how important music could be for people when I took some Elvis, Buddy Holly, & a Ray Stevens record to a pool party and left them out in the sun. I was 10 and didn’t know vinyl would melt. Took a beating from a melted Buddy Holly album. That might explain why my music sounds the way it does!
I progressed to Elton John & Bread (yes, Bread!). Then I heard Aerosmith’s “Get Your Wings” and Joe F*#!ing Perry’s guitar and I was gone! Anyways…
I play guitar, bass, and some days I convince myself that I can play piano, mandolin, and even sing. I’ve done the song contests, cover bands, fronted original bands, attended music school, worked as an engineer in a recording studio, took a hiatus for a few years, and got back into music. What’s all that mean? Not much.
I like just about every genre of music. In a one hour span I might listen to Jimi Hendrix, Miranda Lambert, Weezer, Miles Davis, Ray LaMontagne, Rage Against The Machine, Norah Jones, Debussy, Keith Urban, Coldplay, and Jack’s Mannequin. I just keep writing and producing. Sometimes you get a gem, and sometimes you get a dog. Every dog does have its day; some just never get to see the light of it! I write what comes in my head. Some tunes are commercial, some are left of center, and some are a mashing of different styles. I record what I like and put it out there. Hopefully, it will make people tap their feet, smile, laugh, cry, mad, and even think! If it offends, shut it off.
I’ve been so blessed with all the people I’ve been able to work/write/play/record with, past and present.
Closing random thoughts: I believe Bob Dylan & Taylor Swift are brilliant. I am in awe of Nathan Chapman, Frank Liddell, Rick Rubin & Brian Eno. I believe that Flea is the Hendrix of bass. I hope someday the best note I play on guitar sounds half as good as Brad Paisley’s or J. D. Simo’s worst note. But I’m still glad I sound like me…
And as songwriters, aren’t we all just really chasing The Beatles?
I’ve posted some songs from my CD, a soon to be released EP, and some demos of songs that may end up on my next CD. Hope you like ‘em!
