Fred Nomasters could be considered the Sid Vicious of the liberty movement, but he doesnt do drugs and doesnt get arrested and has a relatively good understanding of what anarchy really means. As he puts it, anarchy is the radical idea you own yourself.
Fred played bass in RM105, a punk band in Minneapolis. He started recording on his own as a creative outlet. The band broke up because of creative differences and Fred simply continued his solo project.
Despite naysayers early on, Fred continued to record and usually forgoes actual singing and adopted a mostly spoken word style that can be beatnik in nature. He likes to keep songs short, simple and to the point.
His bass style is heavily influenced by punk and maybe a little by the rockabilly and blues bands he swing danced to in Minneapolis. He's not afraid to wander away from the punk genre and adopt other styles like folk country blues and electronic.
