SUPERKARMA - Funky Latin Groove Reggae Rock & Punk Mambo!!!
Their music is a cocktail of subversive rhythms that will make you shake your ass.
Their shows are full of energy and latin groove.
Their lyrics talk about common situations and experiences as a result from their exposure to various cultures.
The band started out in 1991 in a hot tropical city in the middle of the world. Christian Garcia and Henry Jaime both born in New York City to Ecuadorian parents met up in Guayaquil - Ecuador in 1988 during their high school years. They immediately started to play as a band with different musicians but it wasn't until 1991 that they finally stablished their band under the name of "Karma".
Despite of the "ONLY COVERS" Bands musical culture that predominated in Ecuador during that time, Karma started their music career by writing their own songs and playing them to their fans. They used to play gigs anywhere they could find one...at their friend's houses, private parties, school festivals, on the street, etc...
In July 1991 Karma along with their good friends "Los Rockerex" created and organized a not for profit music festival by collecting money in their neighborhood door to door (they even built the stage for the show).
Karma also organized in 1992 weekly not for profit shows in a shopping mall were they invited their musician friends even from other music genres to perform...but, always encouraging them to play their own songs. Their persistence in playing and believing in their own songs influenced several musicians that eventually by the mid 90's also started to play and believe in their own songs laying down this way stronger roots for what now constitutes The Ecuadorian Rock Movement.
In 1997 Henry and Christian decided to move back to NY to try new horizons. Two years later in 1999 they decided to change their name to "Los Karma" as that is how their fans used to call them back then.
They released their first independent CD called "Los Karma 1991-1999" which included all tracks they had recorded thru the years.
Los Karma released their second CD called "La Yegua is in the house!!!" in 2001 and started their tour "En Busca de la Yegua Playera" playing in several cities, radio stations and TV shows, in Ecuador, New York and New Jersey.
By 2006 they once again decided to change the name of the band to "SuperKarma".
Their third independent CD called "SuperKarma - Funky Latin Groove Reggae Rock & Punk Mambo!!! was released in 2010.
As the time has passed their music has been growing and maturing by mixing urban rhythms with the vibrations of the beach but, always keeping their rock roots.
The band is currently working on their next independent CD.
They are also working with Contreras (Ecuadorian Hip Hop Legend and friend for years) on an alternative independent CD called "Contreras & SuperKarma" - Hip Hop/Rock. At the same time the band is also co-producing Contreras first solo album.
