Devin K was born in Long Beach, California to parents who encouraged their son’s passion for music at a very young age. As a child, he was exposed to musical greats such as Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and The Beatles and knew early on that music was something he wanted to pursue as a career.
At age 10, his parents purchased his first drum set so he could play alongside his father, who plays guitar. It was his love of playing drums that led him to play percussion in his elementary school band. By 2003, Devin joined his first band, Sometime Tomorrow, doing double duty as both the drummer and singer of the group and later continued his musical journey in becoming the front man of the band, Heart in Hand. That same year, Devin’s father taught him how to play guitar and shortly thereafter, he added piano and ukulele to his musical repertoire.
Yet, Devin’s talents didn’t stop there. Along with a love of music, Devin discovered that he had a natural talent with a soccer ball. He signed a semi pro contract at age 15 and professional contract at 17 with Red Bull. Although he was a gifted athlete, he preferred using his skills as a soccer performer. Touring with Red Bull and then Budweiser, he performed soccer tricks at half time shows for crowds as large as 110,000. Soccer, surfing, and music defined Devin’s teen years and continue to be influential in shaping his artistic expression today.
Later, a move from Long Beach to Hollywood was the first in a number of critical steps he decided to take in order to completely focus on his musical aspirations, not only as a passion, but also as a career. Shortly thereafter, he was introduced to a producer working at Capitol Records, Jason Mater. They immediately clicked and collaborated on a series of songs recorded at the label’s studio in Los Angeles. Six of those tracks would become the foundation of his sound and the songs for his, debut EP, Rendezvous.
Rendezvous offers listeners a feel good journey through songs that showcase a glimpse of what is to come from the artist now known as Devin K. His single, Back to LA, is a catchy track that caught the attention of Power 106 DJ Felli Fel and has been spinning in rotation almost daily on the radio station during rush hour nationwide. The single generated immediate buzz and support. Hollister and Abercrombie are featuring 3 of Devin K's songs off the "Rendezvous EP" on their holiday playlists in every one of their stores around the world. MySpace Music placed Devin on their front music page soon after its release and the song generated over 2 million hits within weeks. Boxer, Manny Pacquiao, endorsed Devin’s music as well and used the song on the landing page of his official website. Devin K's songs and multiple videos online have garnered over 13 Million plays worldwide and have created an infectious buzz and has been met with immediate praise and given him a solid fan base that wants more.
Devin K's unique tone and talent as a performer and songwriter have resulted in multiple television show offers including NBC's The Voice. Having a strong belief that he is much more than just another cover song singer he proudly declined all offers to hit the road touring his original music as direct support for Shwayze on his summer tour. The reactions of fans nationwide confirmed that he had made the right choice and it would only be a matter of time before everyone knows Devin K. He also wrote and is featured on Shwayze's most popular track off his new record, "Ms. Fortune". Since the tour Devin K has been performing one offs in key college markets on the west coast and locked in a few residencies including a gig performing with his live band every month at Hyde Bellagio in Las Vegas.
Devin K is currently writing and recording his Debut album in Los Angeles, working with multiple credited writers and producers. The record is set to release early 2014.
