BIO: The CRY! Is a five-piece Rock 'n' Roll (Power-pop) band from Portland OR. With influences like The Beach Boys, The Ramones, and The Sweet, the band has re-crafted the 2 min. pop song for a new generation. The CRY! effortlessly merges 50's style vocal harmonies, the jangle of 60's pop hooks and the glam-rock attitude of the 70's with the raw punkish emotion of the Portland (OR) street culture from which they emerged.
Founded in 2011, the band has experienced remarkable early success! The CRY!’s self-titled/self-produced debut album (released in Nov. 2011) has sold-out four initial pressings (CD&12"LP) and earned rave reviews from Rolling Stone, Maximum Rock’n’Roll and dozens of other industry sources worldwide.
The CRY! motto, “Never Suck,” has produced a professionalism, work ethic and sense-of-purpose typically seen in older well-seasoned acts. In three short years, the band's hard work, rare musical chemistry, upbeat energy, hooky songwriting, and “DO-IT-YOURSELF” attitude have garnered over 100,000 views on YouTube , and 7,600 Facebook fans. Additionally, the band has earned and maintained #1 and Top 10 rankings on ReverbNation’s local and national charts for over two years.
In February of 2013, the Mooster Records (Chicago) release of The CRY!’s “Discotheque” on 7” vinyl became the label’s fastest selling release to date! In November 2013 SP Records (Tokyo) released another 7” vinyl featuring two tracks from the latest LP project. Additionally, the band has been featured on several compilation releases and most recently recorded “ELO Kiddies” for Zero Hour Records as part of the label’s upcoming Cheap Trick tribute release.
In Late September (2013) the band went back into the studio with original Kingsmen guitarist Mike Mitchell to re-record “Louie Louie” as part of the 50th anniversary celebration of the release of this American rock classic! In Early December (2013) The CRY! recorded "Shama Lama Ding Dong" and "Shout" for the soon-to-be-released "Animal House of Blues" documentary.
On March 1st, 2014 the CRY! released their 2nd studio LP "Dangerous Game." Even before it's release the highly anticipated album has earned high-praise within the power-pop community and has garnered dozens of critical reviews. One label executive, after hearing a mix of the new album, summed up his critique in one word: "epic!"
