“Distinctive lyrics and inviting melodies compel listeners to turn within and consider that which concerns the heart, the mind, and always… the spirit.”
Phillip Lee Morgan has taken inspiration the most familiar American musical traditions and found common ground enough to develop a style where genres cross almost in perceptively. In performance the band indulges themselves now and again with improvisational drifts allowing the otherwise well structured arrangements to maintain a sense of immediacy. Morgan is a competent player either on electric guitar, finding powerful rhythm tones and imaginative solos, or finger picking on an acoustic flattop. Brian Kidd’s always driving but tasteful innovative drum style is the perfect compliment to Randy Bones’ steady uncluttered and solid bottom on the electric bass. But it is the telling of stories that is central here, and Morgan has found a thoroughly universal voice in his lyrical style. His search for a personal philosophy is told in layman’s terms and is so well expressed that the listener might take them for their own. The deceptively simple style is not the result of fluff however, but rather a means to give complex issues broad accessibility. The characters are easily recognized and relationships are explored from almost every side. And like the music, what can be found in common is the theme. The songs are full of heroes who absolutely refuse to give up on love, and cling to faith in it that can find no situation hopeless…..
So put on your thinking cap, and ready your soul. Expect to move, and to be moved. What ever your age or disposition, this music is for you. And one thing is certain; when you experience a PLM show, your inner fabric will get a workout that you will want to remember for a long, long time…
