A Collegiate Affair is a four piece punk/modern rock band based out of Richmond, Virginia. Influenced by bands such as Rise Against and blink 182, A Collegiate Affair originated in June 2011 with founding members TJ Miller, Mikey Stecher, and Tim Fogg. In August 2011, they added Kevin Schmidt on the drums and began writing for what would later be their first EP.
The band continued to grow, bursting onto the Richmond music scene in the summer of 2012 by opening for bands such Honour Crest (Rise Records), Thieves, and Battleghost. In the fall of that year, they parted ways with Schmidt due to scheduling conflicts and monetary issues. The band continued to write music throughout the fall and winter of 2012, working harder on the lyrical structure and quality of their songs.
In March of 2013, they added their current drummer, Dylan Morgan, to the lineup. One month later, they opened for Aaron Carter and Chrystian in Richmond to a nearly sold-out audience, sparking the bands return to the local music scene. The following month, they went into the studio to record their debut EP ‘Out of Place’ at Kolossal Studios with Chris Hummel. The album was officially released September 24, 2013 and was mastered by Paul Leavitt (All Time Low, Senses Fail).
The band continued to play shows around Richmond and ended up adding standalone vocalist James Tuck in April. In July of 2015, they opened up for Farewell, My Love and Jamie’s Elsewhere on their US headlining tour. One month later, they opened for Seaway, Stickup Kid, and Candy Hearts. In November of 2014, they released a new single entitled ‘Calling Card’, which was mastered by Joey Sturgis (Of Mice & Men, Asking Alexandria). That same month, they were named as one of Richmond’s best up and coming bands by a local blog. In January of 2015, they began tracking their second EP at Full Circle Recording (Seraph, Mayfair, Faultline) in Richmond, VA with producer Dan Uphoff. The future is bright for A Collegiate Affair, as they prepare for the release of their second record. With plenty of show experience and an ever-growing knowledge of how the music industry works, A Collegiate Affair is definitely a band to keep an eye out for.
