Mama's Boomshack is what the lovechild of James Brown and Sly Stone would sound like - a 7-piece powerhouse of funky soul music featuring male and female lead vocals, a 4-piece horn section, and a rhythm section with one-punch knockout power. Our original songs draw from influences like James Brown, Parliament, Stevie Wonder, Lettuce, Sly & The Family Stone, and Maceo Parker.
Formed in late 2011, the band has been playing steadily and gathering a following of dedicated funk and soul fans. In February 2014, Mama's Boomshack recorded their debut album with producer Jonathan Wyman (who has worked with Rustic Overtones, Spose, Amy Allen, Lyle Divinsky, and the Mallett Brothers Band just to name a few) at The Halo Studio. The final tracks were mastered at Gateway Mastering in Portland, Maine by three time Grammy Award winner Adam Ayan in April of 2014.
What came out of that session was a 9 track manifesto of what the band is all about. Funky soul music - a mixture of sounds that spans a variety of influences but represents the band as a whole. "Speed Of Soul" is due out in the summer of 2014.
