Every young boy dreams of being the lead guitar player for a Rock N' Roll band, or at least Randy Lee Gandy did. His mother traded some car-tires for a guitar, and he hasn't put it down since.
Born in Jackson, MS, he spent his childhood on a farm near Dothan, AL, where a hard day's work was usually followed by evenings on the porch, sipping ice tea while country music played on the kitchen radio.
His family moved to Graysville, GA, and after learning a few riffs and chords, the young man began sounding out the songs of his childhood.
Eager to learn more, Randy Lee began hanging out with older, more experienced musicians in Chattanooga, TN. With the help of their instruction, he soon made the transitions from country to blues to rock. With fake ID in hand, he was playing at every opportunity in the bars along Rossville Blvd.
By his late teens, Randy Lee had performed with many artists and bands, including the Dalton,GA band "Destiny Run", followed by a collaborative effort with Humble Pie guitarist, Tom Johnson.
Shortly after Tom had departed for another tour with Humble Pie, Randy Lee took to the road as well, stopping first in Nashville, then on to Memphis.
His limited success lead to taking employment as a truck driver, hauling fresh produce throughout the south-east.
The traveling lifestyle as a trucker awakened his "Gypsy Heart", and those experiences left behind a constant influence. With his six-string always along for the ride, he enjoyed stopping in the bars and diners along the old trucking routes playing for coffee, tips, and promising smiles.
Since returning to Nashville in 1996, Randy Lee remains a familiar face in the Nashville music scene. His versatile playing styles and diverse interests have kept him occupied in various rock, pop, country, and blues projects.
As a solo artist, Randy Lee's rhythm-driven, melodic folk-rock compositions, combined with thoughtful, often dry-witted lyrics, have drawn many positive responses.
