Phil Dahn, also known as ILL PHILL, is a young up and coming recording artist based in the United States. He was born to Liberian parents who fled their home country during the late 80s, early 90s, to escape the country's civil war. His parents settled in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where he was born and raised. He is the youngest of five children and the only member of his family involved with music. Since childhood ILL PHILL has always been a gifted writer. It was the one thing he indulged himself in that brought him peace and comfort, a way to express his innermost emotions. And those emotions were translated into poems, inspirational quotes, and later, music lyrics. People took liking to his skill, as his writings were positive, relatable, and left a good impression. During his teen years he was encouraged to make use out his gift. Those around him pitched him the idea of becoming a musician one day because they saw something he didn't, the potential to be a star lyricist. It wasnt until the age of 21 that ILL PHILL decided to give music a try. It would be a hobby that would later turn into a passion.
ILL PHILL's music venture began in 2010 with his good friend K.C who was also an aspiring artist. Together they worked day and night, writing, practicing, finding ways to develop their craft as individuals while on a mutual path. In early 2011 they managed to catch a break and featured on Liberian artist "Shiki-1-TheBoss" record titled "L.I.B Taking Over"; confidence was built and ILL PHILL's belief that he could actually be a star grew with it. But K.C's departure (relocation) mid 2011 left ILL PHILL to continue his journey on his own. From that moment forward ILL PHILL made a promise to K.C and himself to finish what they started. He was fortunate enough to come across established Liberian artists Tru Storry, Rawpekin, and Douk De LIB who mentored him and gave him the tools necessary to be a star. He dove into the music world full force and was ready to explore. His taste for different sounds was his strong suit, not limiting himself to one genre. He labeled himself as a versatile artist with AfroBeat as his speciality, paying homage to his African culture. Music has grown on ILL PHILL over time and has taken the front seat as his passion; with it he hopes to cement his legacy and have an impact on those around him. As with with life, music to ILL PHILL is just a journey. The road to stardome is just the beginning for him. What he does with that stardome when its finally in his grasp is his ultimate goal. Humble, hardworking, and down to earth is the best way to describe this young star.
