On October 10, 1988, Marquettia Gwennell Dixon was born to Colleen and Robert Dixon in Muskegon, Michigan. In later years, Marquettia Dixon would become known as rising female rapper and songwriter, Lady Smiles.
Young Marquettia grew up with in a troubled home, as her father, a drug user, was abusive toward the family. Meanwhile Marquettia Dixon’s mother suffered from a heart condition, which would claim her life in 2004.
Following the death of her mother, Marquettia Dixon’s older sister stepped into the role of mother for the fifteen-year-old girl. Around this time, Marquettia began drinking and abusing drugs. Despite these choices, she still remained an honor student, graduating in 2006 from Muskegon High School.
Already suffering from family issues, tragedy would strike Marquettia Dixon again, as her older sister died of a heart condition in 2007, three years after her mother died from the same condition. During this time, Marquettia relocated to Lansing, Michigan, looking for a fresh start, enrolling in nursing school.
In 2009, Dixon left nursing school and became the guardian to her younger sister. To support herself and her sister, Dixon took a job as a hotel supervisor. While she had a solid job to support her family, Marquettia Dixon still had goals she wanted to reach. During this time, she began rapping.
Lady Smiles was born and she enrolled in school, once again. Every day, Lady Smiles devoted her free time to developing her music career, which was still in its infancy. Lady Smiles soon teamed up with Big Name Studios and began working on her debut album, I Have Survived: I’m not Afraid.
Lady Smiles joined forces with 707 Productions, in 2011, and continued working on her debut album and began working on her sophomore effort, Game On: Ain’t Showing any Mercy. Through the internet, Lady Smiles built an incredible buzz and other artists began reaching out to Lady Smiles in hopes of collaborating with her.
As she is a songwriter, along with being considered a great rapper, Lady Smiles has a lot to offer potential collaborators. Her growing popularity, along with her immense talent gained her features on several mixtapes, including She Got Next, Vol. 3, Trappin to Tha Top, Vol. 3, Ice City, and What’s a Goon to a Goblin.
Two years since she embarked on this journey, Lady Smiles is preparing for the release of her debut album, I Have Survived: I’m Not Afraid, which will be released in February. Wasting no time, Lady Smiles will release her sophomore effort, Game On: Ain’t Showing any Mercy in March.
Following her album releases, Lady Smiles will deliver a mixtape offering, Lead by the Best, which will be released later this year.
