The band was formed in Sacramento, CA in 2001 by Tony Avila on guitar as a side project of the band Eulogy (Sacto/ PDX) with Dave Phillips also from Eulogy. The same year as the demise of Eulogy (Sacto/ PDX), World Of Lies worked hard on practicing and writing a new record, different than the death metal serial killer style that Eulogy was known for, more on the melodic death/ thrash/ grind side with social, and political lyrics. Chris Dann from Shrine Of Scars was added on lead guitar. Paul Suchoski (RIP) from Sons Of Chaos recorded half of the the Material God CD.
In 2002 WOL released World Of Lies - Material God CD. In 2003 appeared on the Partners In Grind 7" compilation. Featuring World Of Lies song "Fear Enslaves" off their self titled album. The last release before relocating was World Of Lies - World Of Lies CD, released in 2004. In late 2004 soon after the release of the self titled CD the band relocated to Portland, Oregon.
Once in Portland WOL appeared on the L.E.A. Portland Metal Compilation CD, released in 2005. Featuring World Of Lies song "Gardens Of The Dead" off their self titled album. Also appearing on the Devil Metal - Nunslaughter Tribute CD, released 2007. Featuring the Nunslaughter song "Obsessed With The Visions Of A Satanic Priest" by World Of Lies. Later in 2007 they released the Thorns EP on CD and 7" vinyl was released 2007. Featuring guest vocals by Larry (Wormwood), Kevin (Blood Freak) & Blaine (The Fartz, The Accused, Toe Tag).
In 2009 the Toe Tag/ World Of Lies - Split CD was released.
Then due to multiple reasons the band went on hiatus in late 2009. Afterwords Tony Avila formed a punk rock band called General Nasty. In 2010 Eulogy the band Tony played in before World Of Lies came out of deep freeze and was resurected soon changing their name to Dead In A Ditch.
World Of Lies made a short secret appearance at a show in 2011, the members of Dead In A Ditch filled out the line up.
Dead In A Ditch went on an hiatus and this left Tony Avila with the decison of getting new members and cotinuing Dead In A Ditch, forming a new band or bringing World Of Lies back to life. He decided it was time to do World Of Lies again and write the next chapter for the band. A new line up was put together December 2012 in secret consiting of Tony Avila, Tony "OT" Papasadero & Michael Thompson. 3 brand new songs were written. The band learned the old material as well as the new and started planning the bands return for 2013.
World Of Lies performed their 1st show in almost 4 years on March 23th, 2013 to a sold out crowd with Death Metal legends Nile. The band started recording soon after the 1st show and booking a tour. May 3rd the band released a new EP called Living Under Drones which was also the 1st day of tour. World Of Lies did a short tour of Oregon, Nevada and California. World Of Lies performed with Cannibal Corpse, Napalm Death, Immolation and Cretin a week after returning from tour which was the local CD release show for the Living Under Drones EP. World Of Lies continued to play local show promoting the new release also appearing with Morbid Angel, Toe Tag, Opposition Rising, Havok & Wehrmacht later in 2013.
