Sticky Stranglets are all about exploration, whether a sonic trip into psychedelic alt-rock or the murky thought puzzles of conspiracy theory. Sticky Stranglets are taking the band’s hard edged music to the masses by releasing an EP and a full length album within months of each other, both laden with cryptic ideas about secret societies and global doom.
Based in Oklahoma, the Sticky Stranglets grew out of the tradition of the critically heralded and sonically progressive Asleep Audience...Dream! with former AAD! member Chris Cody devising a new direction for his music. Cody recruited James Datis initially, with Chris Gianettino and, Jacob Fellwock soon following. Like AAD!, Sticky Stranglets share the songwriting load between the members, allowing the diverse tastes and voices of the members to add a richer texture to the music.
Layered on top of the experimental soundscape is a shared love of dangerous ideas. The “Guidestones” EP was named after a modern Ten Commandments left out in the middle of nowhere in Georgia. The “Brohemian Grove” LP is a play off of the all-male art club located in California and comprised of the most powerful men in the world. Songs touch on a wide range of subjects, from New World Orders to magnetic polar reversal, all a constant prodding for a vast world of sounds and secrets, without judgement or opinion, just fascination.
