Martin Putnam / Bio

Martin is a versatile and accomplished musician in many facets. His main instruments are drums and percussion, but Martin is also skilled at piano, guitar and bass, and is an excellent vocalist.

Martin began his professional music career at the age of 13. He studied drums, accordion and other instruments at Burnwood Music Studio, now Watson Wood Music. He also attended North Greenville College and Furman University, majoring in music, studied jazz with Rick Dior.

Martin has performed and recorded with many renowned groups and musicians, including members of The Marshall Tucker Band, Lynyerd Skynyrd, The Outlaws, Ricky Godfrey, Stephen Hill, Vicky Bird and Willow Creek and The Cracker Band. Throughout his musical career Martin also formed many of his own bands for his original music.

His passion for music inspired author, Barbara O'Conner to write a book using Martin as the main character, "Beethoven in Paradise", a children's book about a boy who loved music and aspired against all odds to become a musician.

Martin is currently working on his first solo album at Woody's Recording Studio, in Rock Hill, SC. He teaches drums and percussion at Martin Putnam's Drum Studio, also in Rock Hill.

Martin says, "My passion and enthusiasm to play, teach, perform and create music seems to grow more and more as I grow older."

Martin at present is an independent drummer and vocalist in Rock Hill, SC.
