Sariyah Idan / Bio

Sariyah Idan, a Jewish American vocalist, songwriter and actor originally from New York. Jazz trained, hip-hop educated and influenced by the music of her roots, she blends music styles into a smooth neo-soul sound seasoned with passionate longing and hope. She takes inspiration from artists ranging from Marvin Gaye to Suzanne Vega, Wu-Tang to Yasmin Levy, Balkan Beat Box to Manu Chao. She is featured on the album Women in Dub by Dubblestandart, along with Marcia Griffiths, Jazzmin Tutun, Hoda Mohajerani and others. In 2012, Idan was awarded for her solo hip-hop theater show HOMELESS IN HOMELAND about Jewish identity and the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, reviewed as “a dramatic tour-de-force not to be missed”. She plans to soon release an EP and/or a few singles.
