Sarah Motes Ashley sang professionally in Virginia and Chicago for 20 years before she and the family traded their snow boots for flip-flops and moved to Maryville, TN. She is equally at home in a swanky cabaret with a pianist, or alone onstage with her acoustic guitar. Her songs, whatever the genre, move easily from hilariously truthful songs to deeply moving ones, wrapping her velvety contralto around hooky and inventive lyrics. It's all about the story. Her lyric "Your Second Wife" was "Top of the Line Winner," lyrics category, in the Smoky Mountains Songwriters' Festival competition in 2013, and she had a great weekend attending workshops and making new friends at the festival, and her lyric "There's a Pill for That" was recognized as semifinalist in the Dallas Songwriters' Association Lyric Contest this past fall. Sarah prefers to sing with friends, and still gigs with The Blondes, her Chicago based 3-girl group of almost 20 years, and will soon begin a new vocal group based in East Tennessee.
