The Wikipedia defines an “American Dream” as a promise of the possibility of prosperity and
success. James Truslow Adams in 1931 said a "life should be better and richer and fuller for
everyone, with opportunity for each according to ability or achievement" regardless social class
or circumstances of birth.” The United States Declaration of Independence declared “all men are
created equal” "and are "endowed by their Creator with certain inalienable Rights" which
included "Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."
As for Stres, a young boy growing up all over the world, he never really recalls ever having a so called
“Dream” but rather what some may call a “dream” - he calls passion.
A passion to prosper and succeed.
A passion to better his life and influence the lives of those around him.
A passion to become richer and fuller, first from within to the best of his God given abilities,
regardless of where Stres came from, what he has walked through or what lies ahead.
Stres' “American Dream” is to live a life of passion in all that he dose.
Coming from a divorced family, raised by his mother, life was always full of the unknown and
unexpected! Stres was 7 years old when his mother re-married. They packed all of their belongings into
two suitcases each and journeyed to the other side of the world – to begin a new life as
missionaries. It was then when Stres picked up a guitar and hasn’t stopped singing since!
Music is his passion – his “American Dream”.
By the time he reached 16 years of age, the parents kicked him out and bought him a one way ticket back home and found his-self back in Kansas City surviving the city streets.
At times waking up gripping the bars of a jail cell Stres states: "I look back, and I thank God daily for
protecting me and for good friends, my "Family", in my life."
The streets would have definitely been
much colder without both. Through this his passion for music continued to grow and life’s journey, both ups
and downs, molded his love for music and a stronger and more culturally diverse passion has
emerged because of it. Composing, writing, producing, and engineering - Stres brings something
different to the table every time.
If you had to describe his music, it may be considered Neo-soul; a fusing of Blues and soul with
elements of hip-hop, heart and various other genres that have influenced him. Some even say Stres is a revolutionist, as his music tends to always contain a
"This is my life of drama, transitions, death, love, street mentality, pain, laughter, and too much of an
understanding to cry, explains my music!
My “American Dream” is coming to pass.
I will continue to create a promising future for myself, lasting longer than the very beat in my
heart; a passion not only to express myself in lyric and song, but touching the lives of the
generations to come."
