Kenyon Adams is a multi-faceted singer, musician and songwriter. He has shared the stage with great musicians such as The Lovin' Spoonful, Gary Clark Jr., Charlie Peacock, Madi Diaz, Mighty Purple and Ten Shekel Shirt. In 2011, he partnered with blues guitarist Noah Lekas to form the band Kenyon Adams & American Restless, a Brooklyn-based blues-rock-soul project to which he contributed vocals and amplified harmonica.
Born in Baltimore, MD, and growing up in Orlando, FL, Kenyon was raised with music. His extended family co-founded the Florida Mass Accapella Chorus and enjoyed acapella gospel singing in churches nationally.
Kenyon began to write songs on his own at 13 and performed with the group NVision while attending Dr. Phillips High School of Visual and Performing Arts as a theater student. He accepted a scholarship to study theater at Southern Methodist University in Dallas, TX where he began writing songs intently as well as collaborating with contemporary composer and band leader Dr. Kevin Hanlon. With Hanlon and his band Doubting Scholars, Kenyon explored blues, jazz, rock, punk and folk.
After graduating, Kenyon released his solo debut album Songs of the Road and began collaborating with Douglas Feil and Rose Fletcher who would become integral to his musical life for much of the decade that followed.
With the release of Songs for the Road, Kenyon moved to New Haven, CT to work closely with Ten Shekel Shirt and continue performing with Feil and Fletcher. Much of his musical life in New Haven was centered around The Space, a music venue owned by Steve Rodgers of the brother duo Mighty Purple. The Rodgers brothers would have the single greatest musical influence on Kenyon's musical life. While playing wine glasses in Jon Rodgers avant garde orchestra, Kenyon began to perform with a large ensemble of musicians including members of Mighty Purple, Ten Shekel Shirt and many others. The Kenyon Adams Ensemble also served as the launching pad for contemporary soul prodigy Blessing Offor.
