Montana-born, Singer/Songwriter/Guitarist Mike Murray, played over 80 dates in 2013 in Montana, Colorado, Utah, and Western Canada. From headlining The Denver Oktoberfest, to working with various studios and producers around the country, Murray prepared and created his new rock/blues EP, Balance and Rhythm, releasing it to a packed house last October. After attending the EP release show, Whitefish Pilot editor, Matt Baldwin, had this to say in his front-page review of the show:
“He showcased the new record at a show last month at Crush Lounge. The loft bar in downtown Whitefish was packed before the show — a testament to his local fan support. Murray opened the show with authority. Within two songs the dance floor was bouncing. It’s obvious Murray thrives with an electric guitar in his hands. His stage presence draws in the audience as he loses himself in deep solos on top of a driving beat.”
Prior to Murray’s sophomore album, Balance and Rhythm, he released his debut album, International (May 2011). On the heels of which, he performed locally, played several dates in Europe including an appearance on National Dutch Radio station, 3FM, and toured the USA from coast to coast.
While his music may remind the listener of rock played by The Black Keys, Murray’s melodies are reminiscent of John Mayer. Murray’s influences of classic songwriters and his prior experiences overseas working with at risk youth and victims of human trafficking continue to inspire lyrics that tell a story of the human experience. 2014 already has Murray busy back in the studio, writing new songs, perfecting the gritty, blues/rock show of the Mike Murray Trio, and filling up a calendar with both local and touring dates throughout the west.
