Artists of War is a solo project begun by Athens guitarist Brad Olsen in the Summer of 2010. What began as a single song foray that fused the battering rhythms of High On Fire with the progressive melodies of Mastodon in “The Judge” eventually spawned multiple offspring and re-workings of older songs. Remixing, acquisition of new software and ever improving studio skills lead to a full album being planned out for a 2011 release.
After the release of our s/t, several shows ensued through the live incarnation of Artists of War consisting of The Dragon on guitars and vocals, Skullcrusher on bass, and Dynamo on drums. Additionally, Brad began work on a deep scoping concept project titled "Peace" that would see eventual release in January 2012 along with a full-size printed magazine that features detailed illustrations, stories, and descriptive narratives that explain the eternity-spanning storyline.
In support of Peace The Dragon mounted several solo performances at a local coffee house playing Heavy Metal versions of Lady GaGa songs (see "Artists of GaGa") as well as acoustic 12 and six-string compositions that would eventually come to be part of the next Artists of War record, "Black Dragon."
Essentially a solo album by The Dragon, "Black Dragon" was written, recorded, and produced in less time than any of the previous AoW records and featured some of the rawwer, yet significantly more complex, writing of the band's discography so far. A performance on Friday the 13th in the band's hometown of Athens, Ga marked a return to playing live gigs after a several month hiatus. At present the band is in the process of writing and recording their fourth full-length record expected out on their own label, Tricalibur Records, sometime in the Fall of 2012.
