Joel Martin Project / Bio

A 23 year old accordian master, Joel Martin has been playing music and writing songs for most of his life. He began singing at the tender age of three, planting the seed to his musical career fairly early. At seven years old he began taking piano lessons, and the following year he started playing the accordian and began learning Cajun Music. Joel's grandfather, Jr Martin, a world renowned accordian maker, has been building accordians for over 25 years. At age eleven, Joel won a scholarship to take accordian lessons with Danny Poulard at Davis & Elkins College in West Virginia. He picked up the guitar and bass at 12 years old and started listening to roughly every genre, broadening his musical prowess by leaps and bounds. At thirteen, he began leading the children's church music department with piano and vocals at Family Life Church, and did so for seven years. He has played with countless famous accordian players. In the summer of 2009, he did a 10 day Norwegian tour with the international Cajun/Zydeco Band "Cajun Du Nord." He currently has 2 CDs that have been released, "L'ange Du La Chapel", which is mostly traditional Cajun, and "Will You Dance with Me," which is a smooth, creamy blend of zydeco, blues, rock and roll, reggae covers, sprinkled with some originality and pop. His "new project" is named "The Joel Martin Project."
