Been playing and writing since 17. Love what music and words can do to you,the joy and fun they can bring. From Auckland NZ, and have spent time in the States and UK. A few bands over the years. Settled now with the lads of Vernoffe Lane, and what a band. Check them out.
Joined VL way back when… I still had hair and didn’t need advanced mattifying gel on my head when on stage in order to keep the spot lights from blinding everyone! Nowadays I tend to fill the specialised dogsbody/man-Friday position in the band. In charge of standing around, canned solo’s and ensuring our zims are regularly serviced (zimmer frames that is), also intervolving/sundering cables (as required), retrieving stray plectrums from behind studio couch, making tea, that sort of thing... :-)
Studied under NZ’s most respected drummer Frank Gibson, Mike has over 20 years of professional experience in performance, recording, and teaching. Recent work includes playing with the late Alphonso Keil & The Kavaliers (Keil Isles), Tony Painting and The Power, The Broadsides, Gary Harvey Band, Billy TK Jnr and The Groove Shakers, and Triple Shot.
Al joined VL as recording engineer and later replaced bassist Brett Rogerson. A self taught multi-instrumentalist, Al started on the recorder (woodwind, not 4-track!) then moved to guitar, bass, and more recently drums. He graduated top-of-the-class at the School of Audio Engineering in Auckland, and has played in several church and community bands.
