David Brown / Bio

David Brown is best known as a guitarist and banjo player, but has played for years as an upright bass player, turntablist (no joke!), and mandolinist.

Regardless of the instrument or configuration, David is regarded as a musician of the highest caliber. Born into a musical family, David grew up in Asheville and quickly became engrossed with the power of traditional acoustic instruments and music. Upon graduating from Warren Wilson College in 2005, David began a full-time music career touring the states and abroad.

David is a member of the internationally acclaimed "Rising Appalachia." He's also half of the powerhouse duo "Contraversial" - widely considered to be one of the premier dance duos in America today. In addition to accompanying some of Asheville's best fiddlers - Cailen Campbell, Andrew Magill, Duncan Wickel and others - David performs regularly with U.S. National Scottish Fiddling champion, Jamie Laval. David has had the honor to perform with dozens of other amazing musicians and bands over the years, including:

Martha Scanlan (Reeltime Travelers), The Greasy Beans, Acoustic Syndicate, Wayne Erbsen, Jordan McConell, Leslie Tucker, the North Carolina Dance Theater, Leah Song and many others.
