Tucked away in the picturesque Appalachian Mountains a strange rhythm taps itself out. It begins with a tick, a click of the tongue that beckons the ear toward the mysterious sound. As you listen closer, the sound becomes clearer: is it the tick-tock of a clock, or the scattered sound of rain knocking at the window panes of slumbering houses?
Allijah Motika, a folk-pop artist and multi-instrumentalist from Asheville, NC, grew up in a house full of music. Always supported by his eclectic family (with relatives playing music from folk to heavy metal, and a father who crafts and plays Native American bamboo flutes), he has developed a diverse musical style. Beginning his solo career in 2011, Allijah crafted a distinctive sound defined by soaring melodies, clever beatboxing, syncopated lyrics, and tasteful acoustic guitar playing.
In 2013, Allijah joined forces with two other musicians to create a fun-loving, high energy acoustic trio. Backed by Jake Martin on guitar and vocals (a 90's rock enthusiast) and Shaun Cammack on upright bass (an aficionado of all things Bluegrass), the group brings a vibrant twist to Allijah's songs through rhythmic bass playing, creative guitar work, and compelling harmonies. With a high energy style inspired by their eclectic influences, the Allijah Motika Trio blends it all into their unique spin on folk-pop.
