Steve Kozak Maple Blues Award winner for New Artist of the year in Canada.
Steve Kozak has built a reputation as one of western Canada’s premier Blues acts having repeat performances at The Edmonton International Blues Festival, The Powell River Blues Festival, The Pender Harbour Blues Festival and Nanaimo’s Summertime Blues Festival. In January of 2013 Kozak gained national attention by winning the Maple Blues Award for New Artist or Group of the Year in Canada for 2012.
In a sea of endless white boy blues bands and tired old riffs, there is one cat that stands out from the crowd. Vancouver based Steve Kozak is that man. Harkening back to sound of the juke joint, traditionalist Kozak has been raisin' the roof with some smokin' vintage equipment all along the west coast for nearly three decades.
Kozak, a bluesman's bluesman, has surrounded himself with a stellar array of seasoned Blues veterans..
Recent highlights include being nominated for a 2013 Maple Blues Award, performing at The Edmonton Intl.Blues Festival and releasing the new CD lookin' at Lucky featuring special guest James Harman.
Kozak also hosted a weekly ‘Blues Party’ at Vancouver’s Home of The Blues, the renowned Yale Hotel in Vancouver BC. There Steve and his Westcoast All-Stars have backed several international recording artists including, James Harman, Big Joe Louis, Mitch Woods, Tom Holland, Miss Robin Bank$ and have opened shows for Nick Curran and the Low-Lifes, Rick Estrin and the NightCats, Maria Muldaur, The Lee Boys and ‘Super Harp’ James Cotton to name a few.
Steve has performed at the 2013 Calgary Mid-winter Blues Festival, The Pender Harbour Blues Festival in 2011 backing James Harman and will again in 2013. Twice at the Labatt Blues International Festival in Edmonton performing with Blues Harmonica legends James Harman and special guest Rod Piazza in 2010 and returned again in 2012 with his WestCoast All-Stars. He has played The Nanaimo Blues Festival, The Powell River Blues Festival, The Rare Earth Music Festival at Silver Star in Vernon BC, The Great Canadian Bike Rally in Merritt BC, The Maple Ridge Jazz & Blues Festival, The Gastown Blues & Chilli Festival in Vancouver twice and many more venues with his WestCoast All-Stars.
