Ted Dortch is recognized as one of the top saxophone players working in the Pacific Northwest today. A multi-instrumentalist equally at home on all the saxes, and flute, Ted has over 50 album credits to his name and has appeared at numerous jazz festivals, including Montreux, Vienna, and Tokyo.
Growing up in the Atlanta area, Ted was recognized as one of the top high school saxophonists in the state. He then continued his career by joining the 389th army band in Ft. Monmouth, New Jersey, allowing him to get close to the music scene in New York and the opportunity to study with Dave Burns and Bob Pleasant. After his Army stint was up Ted answered the call of New York and worked there for three years. When a gig in the Sunshine State opened up, Ted moved and spent the next two years playing Salsa and Jazz in Miami until the thriving music scene in Atlanta called him home. After 10 years of performing, recording, touring, teaching, and raising a family in Atlanta it was time to continue the adventure …..so Ted pulled up his roots and moved the family to Seattle where, since 1999, he continues to work and expand his musical scope.
Ted’s' musical styles include: Jazz, Funk, blues, rock, hip-hop, motown/soul, latin/salsa, world/new age, big band and theater.
