RUTH NAOMI GOOLSBY, BORN JUNE 3, 1977 IN St. Louis, MO, is one of Gospel Music's prized hidden treasures. Ruth sang with her family around her hometown as a child, making a name for herself with vocal capabilities far beyond her tender years. Stemming from 3 generations of female musicians, it was inevitable that music, especially singing and playing piano would become a constant in her life.
At the age of 15, after losing his church musician, the Pastor of Gospel Temple Church of God in Christ in Rock Hill, MO, asked Ruth to get on the organ. She obliged and quickly started picking out songs here and there. Miraculously after only a short time, she transitioned into a season musician sounding as if she had been playing for years. It was then apparent that there was an anointing upon this woman of God. Now residing in Houston, TX, Ruth Goolsby's gift is still making incredible room for and positioning her right in the eye of the greatest in gospel music.
In 2001, Ruth was appointed by Professor Iris Stevenson, former President of the Church Of God In Christ Music Department, as the Musicians Coordinator for the International COGIC Youth Choir, under the excellent directorship of Evangelist Jacky Clark-Chisholm (of the world renowned Clark Sisters), assuming the role from Praise and Worship giant, Myron Williams. Today, she still serves under the leadership of Dr. Judith Christie-McAllister and Evangelist Vandalyn Kennedy as a Chief Levite for the International Youth Choir and singer. Ruth has been a frequent song presenter to the Annual COGIC AIM Convention where she has been pinned as one of the most promising songwriters of today, showcasing a sound that many explain as "unexplainable and daring".
Ruth's name can also be seen on several of today's popular gospel releases. In 2011, she assisted super Music Producer David Blakely on arranging background vocals for Sunday Best Season 3 Winner Le'Andria Johnson's CD (featured solo on DVD). She can also be heard on current releases for Kurt Carr (Bless This House), Shirley Caesar(Good God), and Ami Rushes (Stand Up For Jesus). Ruth has also done background work for Donald Lawrence, Twinkie Clark, Dorinda Clark-Cole, Marvin Sapp, Micah Stampley, and many others. In March of 2010, Ruth held her first big concert, “ALIVE IN HOUSTON”, featuring some of Houston's top singers (Chad Stevenson and Alvaneeta Nelson-Stevenson, Lici Lewis, Carnel Davis, Jr.) and a dynamic band featuring David Blakely, Joey Oscar, Aaron Shields, and Chris Black. The reviews from the concert have literally reached the ears of those spanning the globe and held a large out of state attendance. Ruth released a single called "Be Ye Holy" from that night that has enjoyed incredible radio play, spawning # 1 spots in Barbados and the Bahamas.
So what's next for Ruth Goolsby? Currently, she is taking time to reinvent herself spiritually and musically. Because of the distinctive prophetic utterance and call on her life, she says she's being very careful in how she moves forward in this next season of her life. "I am positioning myself to be equipped enough to carry this Gospel not just in song and groove, but in word and action. God has ordained and promised a world wide ministry, but I want my focus SOLEY on people seeing Him and His Son in this dark hour. Time is near and that's what my message is". No doubt, Ruth's lyrics often sound like a plea to the unsaved and backslider, in which she isn't afraid to speak about her battles won and lost. "I've encountered SO MANY things in my life that people couldn't imagine, but someone out there NEEDS the word from my mouth so they can heal and receive Jesus all that way. I know PERSONALLY that He can change someone that wants to be changed. I've been the worst, in my eyes, but God has loved me through my mess, to my victory. HE CAN CHANGE ANYONE!"
Therein lies the power and message behind her music and this is what every listener will hear in her two BRAND NEW singles being released soon! World, get ready.
