Claudia Nygaard / Bio

Claudia Nygaard straddles the fence between folk and country in much the same way that John Prine and Guy Clark have. A former staff songwriter for Greenwood Music on Nashville’s Music Row, Nygaard was never content to write formulaic “radio friendly” love songs for the country music industry. Instead she bought her contract and her songs back from her publisher, and began writing what was in her heart. She crafts songs that range from heartfelt to humorous, and she does so with a quick wit, an articulate point of view, and vivid imagery. .. .. "Claudia has a talent for finding in a simple phrase the most excellent songs, where anyone else might hear nothing. I am continually amazed by the emotions she can evoke; heart wrenching I cry every time, to a social statement which could be a call to action or at least some inner searching, to sexy and funny that leaves everyone in the room delightfully joyfully heated. She is a pleasure to work with and gives her best every time. Always delighted to have her at Kerrville!" Dalis Allen, Producer of the Kerrville Folk Festival .. .. A former winner of the Kerrville Folk Festival "New Folk" Songwriting Competition, this year Claudia was proud to be a main stage performer at the festival. She also performed on Rich Warren's WFMT "Folkstage" radio show last May, which was aired on XM's The Village. Most recently, she has been chosen as one of the emerging artists to be showcased at The Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in July. As a performer she has been compared to Will Rogers for her relaxed and intimate stage presence.
