Meg Johnson is a dynamic vocalist who immediately draws the listener in and puts them at ease. Her voice is an instrument that she plays with style and grace, uniquely interpreting standards with power and soul. Meg studied voice at the Oberlin Conservatory of Music and has been singing professionally for fifteen years. After being introduced to the classic recordings of Ella Fitzgerald and Sarah Vaughn, her passion for jazz took hold. In the late 90’s she performed with her trio on the East Coast, playing clubs in New York City and Connecticut. In Upstate New York she worked with many talented musicians including pianist Pete Levin (Wayne Shorter, Gil Evans), singer Eric Mingus (Bobby McFerrin, Carla Bley), drummer Eric Parker (Bonnie Raitt, Steve Winwood) and bassist Chris Wood (Medeski, Martin & Wood, John Scofield). Meg has lived in Austin, Texas since 2007 and has performed with the Austin Pops, guitarist Russell Scanlon (Alex Coke, Tina Marsh), bassist Jessica Valls (Glover Gill, Graham Reynolds) and Will Taylor & Strings Attached. Currently she is working on an album of ballads to be released in 2012.
