Nubia Emmon is a multi-talented R&B singer/rapper, dancer and songwriter and is the most sought after artist in Austin. Born in the “Capital of Live Music” – Austin, Texas - music flows through Nubia; she is a distant cousin of The Queen of Gospel, Mahalia Jackson, her father grew up performing in an R&B band along with his brothers and sisters and her brother also performs in his own band (Silly Aces). This innate love for music and constantly being in the presence of her family’s artistry was passed on to Nubia who was singing by the time she was 3.
Nubia has not only performed in various cities in Texas, but she has also performed in various states as a solo artist, in duets and with live bands, including her brother’s band, “Sillly Aces”. Demand has also grown for her to do collaborations which has included Def Jam's recording artist, Lil Niqo, who jumped on her track 'Dancing Machine'.
Realizing what it takes: sacrifice and hard work, whether she is working in the studio, at shows, in the community or with other artist, Nubia's dream is to become a world class performer/entertainer. Her fans seem to believe this too and listeners of Austin’s KAZI (FM-88.7) voted her #1 in three categories; “Best Radio R&B Artist, Best Female Radio Song (Burn), and Best Female R&B Live 2012” at the KAZI Radio Showcase Awards in December, 2012. Recently she placed first in the New York Indalab Makin History" Showcase (September, 2013), 1st place at the HipHop Seazons #5 Showcase in New York (November, 2013), 1st place at the Atlanta Bar Exam Showcase (2/2014), Voted Hip Hop Artist of the Year (11/2014, New York's Juzz Roc the Mic Award).
One of her signature projects is the “Pretty Girls that Rock the Mic” concert series. The purpose is to raise awareness for breast cancer and to showcase the talent and diversity among female artists in Texas. Inspired by her Mother’s fight with breast cancer, the first show held was very successful and led to a partnership with the Susan G. Komen Foundation for Breast Cancer, Austin Affiliate. Nubia and her team are organizing and fundraising for a major follow up benefit concert.
Nubia Emmon is using her talent in music to give back to the community through The Nubia Emmon Foundation, which focuses on building healthy relationships within families, motivating and serving youth and supporting healthy lifestyles. She has adopted Winn Elementary School where she attended as a child and she plan to bring in resources for the students. A graduate of Judson High School (Class of 2012), she was accepted into the prestigious Sarah & Ernest Butler School of Music at U.T. summer program on a scholarship which she successfully completed in July, 2012. Nubia is currently receiving vocal coaching from Michael Keith of the multi-platinum R&B group 112.
