Secret Mark began as a three man garage band in 2012. Started by long time friends Jonathon Callahan (guitar) and Christian Welsh (drums), they soon brought in Dean Delemos (vocals, bass). In Summer of 2012 Secret Mark was playing a local show with the band The Opening Act, whose singer and bassist at the time was Chelsea Elliott. Secret Mark was so impressed with Chelsea's vocal ability, bass control, and overall ability to work the crowd that Jon invited her to join Secret Mark. Dean moved to rhythm guitar for a few months but ended up parting ways due to his work in the Navy. Throughout the years members have came and went, consisted of anywhere from two to five people, and changed styles a number of times.
Fall of 2012 is when Secret Mark began to blossom. As the trio (Jon Callahan, Chelsea Elliott, Christian Welsh) began to write and play local shows nonstop, they got a lot of positive feedback from local bands, venues, and most importantly, the fans. With 2012 coming to a close, Secret Mark hungered for something bigger. They simply wanted to be heard! They played their first show at the Norva directly supporting some good friends from The Eleventh Hour. The show was a huge success and it wasn't long before they were on the stage again supporting Audiostrobelight at their CD release. 2013 also showcased Secret Mark's first EP 'Structures' which was released on January 19th. 'Structures' went over better than anyone could have expected it to. Within the first couple months it had sold hundreds of copies, clocked over ten thousand plays online, and was even played on major radio channel 96X (FM 96.1) multiple times!
Alas, all good things must come to an end. Christian Welsh decided to leave the band in the Summer of 2013 to pursue his academic career and spend more time on his personal life. Jon didn't know if he could continue the band, losing his long time best friend and drummer. After all, how do you replace those years of memories and musical connection between two people? Chelsea, being a natural born star, didn't want to give up so easily. Secret Mark continued to play and promote themselves as a two piece acoustic band until they could find a suitable replacement on drums.
In September things turned around for the band. Justin Capps showed up on Secret Mark's doorstep out of thin air, literally. He offered to try out to fill the spot on drums. After a few practices another very talented musician entered the picture - Chris Yi. The current lineup consists of Chelsea Elliott (Vocals Bass), Jon Callahan (Guitar), Chris Yi (Guitar) and Justin Capps (Drums). Secret Mark can be described musically as high energy and a unique blend of rock, ambiance, punk and jazz: the dark, erie swelling of the guitars has a Circa Survive/Minus the Bear feel to it, while the syncopated thick rhythm section is really something you can dance to. Chelsea's vocals are remarkably stunning and you will find yourself with her witty, relatable lyrics stuck in your head all day. The group plans to take the next step and start touring for the rest of 2013 and is currently working on their next self produced EP 'Supermoon'. Check them out online or at a local venue near you!
