Sister Gray / Bio

What others had to say,

Adam Thompson, Music Director, Sonic 102.9 Edmonton, AB
"They produced an EP (Close The Night EP) that was accessible, refreshing and interesting. This is a difficult combination to achieve. The single we played on SONiC (Close The Night) was very popular, and I’m very anxious to hear what else they plan on releasing."
Chosen in See Magazine's Best of Edmonton Issue as 'Edmonton's Best Hidden Gem' 2011

One slightly crazed, neurotic female musician surging with angst and inspiration is often enough for a band to have material for decades. Sister Gray has two such women…and they are sisters, for better or worse.

2011 and 2012 have been busy years for the band. They have opened for many great Canadian bands including Mother Mother at MacEwan's Fall Fest, USS at the Dinwoodie Lounge, Die Mannequin, and Sweet Thing. They finished off their first western canadian tour in 2011 with a headlining spot at North Country Fair on the MainStage. Along with countless shows the band has finished their second EP entitled "Analog Truth" which is due to be released in the spring of 2013.

Close the Night is self-released, and with the help of talented producer/engineer Stew Kirkwood from Sound Extractor Studios, their vision came to life. The sisters poured their blood, sweat and many tears into the lyrics and melodies of every song. They are uncensored, self-reflective and sometimes self-critical. The boys in the band also poured their talents into the EP: Kurtis Schultz bringing strong direction and drive with his beats, Ajay Patterson laying down his great melodic ideas and Mike Morrisseau adding the ballsy guitar that every rock band needs. The result is a show that is gutsy and brutally honest.

Their first single Old Wives Tale was released the last week of August 2010 and within weeks made top 30 on CKUA radio in Edmonton for the week of September 8 – 15. Also in September 2010, Sister Gray was selected as the Sonic 102.9 Band of the Month for February 2011, featuring their second single Close the Night. The single has received daily radio play on Sonic 102.9 Edmonton since February 1, 2011.

Sister Gray’s online presence has also grown exponentially. They performed acoustic versions of two of their songs for a Sonic 102.9 online video series called “Sonic Sessions.” This video has received the most hits (views) of a Sonic Band of the Month for 2010/2011. Their Balcony TV online video performance, which aired February 25, 2011 received 95 views in less than an hour, and in one week has received over 500 views, growing faster than any other Balcony TV video to date. Their MySpace page has grown by nearly 10,000 fans in the past two months. A music video featuring Close The Night , produced by Edmontonian Mark Elliott, has just been completed, and is scheduled for distribution to online and mainstream outlets the first week of March, 2011.
