Hiedi Askew / Bio

Two parts prideful Louisianan, one part indifferent Alaskan and one part hesitant Detroitian, Hiedi Askew consider themselves more of a genre-evading, addictively off-the-wall ensemble than a rock band--which they prefer to allege via an obligatory short biography written patronizingly in the third person.

The band was initially formed by singer Jason Mascow while exerting the creativity of his youth some eons before recording history was a possibility. After growing tired year after year of jamming with Beethoven rip-offs, arrogant pachycephalosauruses and whatever 1700s reference that would most accurately accentuate this now tired process of poking fun at him for being the oldest, Jason met bass extraordinaire Nate Glansbeek, who had naturally misread the Northern Lights on some weirdo spirit journey and wound up in California. Their meeting was mediated through a mutual buddy named Craig who happened to avidly keep a list of mostly questionable musicians (and would-be daters) in the Los Angeles area. Craig also introduced the newly-inseparable pair to guitarist Jarrod Moore and drummer Chris Stewart, who had moved to Los Angeles in lieu of surviving off of snappin’ turtle leavings.

As fate (the Disney/Pixar type? Absolutely.) would have it, the unlikely quartet morphed into a chiseled-from-something-extremely-hard-to-chisel entity that thrives on creating and exhibiting uninhibited, fun music that has thus far been extremely well received through energetic performances, and is enthusiastic about and eager to continue creating and performing new compositions, and meeting new friends and appreciators along the way.
