“My friends & I went to visit my dad at a club. He said I could play a song.” The stage was behind a velvet curtain. “I climbed up & kicked out a version of an old Conway Twitty song. I heard a little bit of applause. I peeked out from behind the curtain & saw my dad, the clubowner, & Tammy Wynette.” Jimmy's dad Wayland was a Country Swing Hall of Fame musician.
In 2002, Jimmy was backstage at a Clay Walker show. He ran into Walker’s bandmates Rex Wiseman & Curt Walsh & played them some of his songs. Wiseman said, “You gotta be one of the best writers I have ever heard.” He then recorded an album with Wiseman & Walsh in Nashville.
