Composer Dan Cantrell’s recent works include the score for 3 seasons of the cartoon television series Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack, Emmy award winning composition for the documentaries on PBS, Gerbode Grant sponsored composition of the Rootabaga Opera (a Fire Arts infused multimedia shadow play and lyrical ballet based on the children’s stories of Carl Sandberg) collaborations with ODC, Ballet Afzaneh and Bellydance Evolutions dance companies, and MAP sponsored compositional collaboration with Kitka women’s vocal ensemble, Voice of Roma and Brave Old World’s Michael Alpert, exploring the roots and ties between Roma(gypsy) and Klezmer music traditions for the 2007 Jewish Music Festival premier. As a pianist, accordionist and musical saw player his artistry can be heard on albums and on tour with Tom Waits, Joanna Newsom, Frank London, and the San Francisco Symphony.
Accordionist Dan Cantrell can be heard on Albums from Tom Waits, Joanna Newsom, the Toids and numerous self produced albums. He has performed recently with the San Francisco Symphony, the Oakland Symphony, members of the Klezmatics and Mike Marshall. As a composer he wrote music for three seasons of The Marvelous Misadventures of Flapjack on Cartoon Network and recieved an Emmy Award for his work scoring documentary films.
