Mike Leslie was inspired to pick up the guitar after hearing Van Halen blasting out of his neighbor’s radio and then hearing Def Leppard’s Pyromania in 1983/84. Mike didn’t start playing guitar until he was in high school; the pastor at church gave him a ¾ size acoustic that was gathering dust in 1989. Mike spent every spare moment he had playing and learning the guitar, attempting to play like some of my favorite musicians (Ozzy Ozbourne, Metallica and Megadeth). After high school Mike joined his first band, The Jolly Postmen; a punk band that morphed into a grunge band. Mike wanted to play more intricate music so they parted company. In 1993 Mike joined the Green River Music Company; a Vegas style show group and combo band for a dances at Green River Community College. He played many genres of music all over the North-west and Hawaii over two years as a guitarist/vocalist. In 1996 Mike joined the progressive metal band Luna’s Web. After 6 months of intense rehearsals they were gigging regularly in the North Seattle area. In subsequent years Mike played in various rock & metal projects. In 1998 began playing guitar in the church worship band. In 1999 Mike played guitar/drums and sang at Glacier National Park with American Cabaret Theater in the production of Rockspell. In 2000, American Cabaret Theater attempted to set up a company in Seattle. Mike was called in for guitar and wound up becoming the default music director, rewriting charts and rehearsing the vocalists for the show Decades. Additionally Mike played electric guitar in acoustic/rock band Jordan Crossing. In 2002 Mike began attending Portland Community College Professional Music Program; playing in the large/small show-band as well as the improvisation class band. In the fall of 2003 Mike entered the Jazz Program at Portland State University, playing with two small combo groups. In 2009 Mike released his first album, a solo effort, MLP – Reclaiming Glory.
