The musical collaboration of husband and wife songwriters, Darwin and Dana Nelson has taken them far from their small-town roots of Lucedale, Mississippi and carried them across the country where they have created a name for themselves at numerous songwriting festivals, house concerts, and top flight venues. Affectionately known as “Double Dee” when they perform as a duo, they also makeup 2/3 of the band “Magnolia County” with Maliboat recording artist and co-writer, Matt Hoggatt. They’re also 2/3’s of another trio called Delta Coast (along with co-writer Taylor Craven). Darwin and Dana have released six albums over the last few years and continue to be regular weekly performers at the Biloxi Margaritaville Casino. They are founding members of the Mississippi Songwriter’s Festival and perform at numerous other festivals including the Frank Brown Festival, Smoky Mountain Festival in Gatlinburg, and Six String Festival in New Orleans. The Nelsons were finalist in 2012 in thesongwriter’s.biz contest with their song “Justice Served”; recently received an honorable mention in American Songwriter’s Magazine for their collaboration “Doin’ for Daddy” with co-writer Taylor Craven and their song “Call It Gumbo”, the title cut off their most recent CD release won the “Director’s Award” in the fall, 2013 Paramount.com songwriting contest.
