-- Alt folk country that raises a little dust
Willy Blizzard is a touring acoustic folk trio from the West coast of Canada, singer/songwriters who play original alternative roots/folk/country music featuring vocal harmonies, guitars, banjo and stand-up bass.
Willy Blizzard is fronted by singer/songwriter John Hough (“a mahogany rich voice...” -- Vancouver Province), whose warm baritone first garnered singing prizes as an underage performer at the old Caribou Club in Toronto. In B.C. he has been heard at concerts and festivals since Expo 86, with performance credits including Vancouver Folk Festival, Mission Folk Festival, Harrison Festival, Filberg, to name a few. John’s voice has been described as “the smoothest baritone west of the Rockies.” (Canadian Folk Music Bulletin)
Giving a nod back to classic country instrumentation, while tapping into the more contemporary sound of electric, what really sets their repertoire apart is the songwriting. It’s all about the lyrics, and the music speaks for itself. They toured their debut album “In From The Cold” in the summer of 2010, completing a 40 gig tour of Western Canada. Willy Blizzard's concerts convey genuine musical and lyrical warmth and add just a little more insight into the heart of Canada.
