Flight of the White Falcon
I had become a most excellent AIR guitarist - had all the moves but no sound. Beyond chords A, D, and E, playing real guitar eluded me. I was tired of dreaming & decided it was time to try & make the fantasy a reality.
The whole thing began the year my wonderful wife bought me a Gretsch White Falcon as a Christmas present. Things changed. How can they not if you possess a White Falcon?
Armed with some knowledge & a great instrument I ventured to my church in Fuquay-Varina, auditioned and made the praise band.
The company I was working for, WRAL, held auditions for a house band, Transmit This, to participate in the Corporate Battle of the Bands (which we won in 2009).
Transmit This ended up playing twice at Koka Booth Amphitheater, opened three times for the Durham Bulls, and played a company outing at Carter-Finley Stadium. I was hooked.
I formed Fish 'n Chips to play in a talent show - my first time fronting a band.Check the "Revolution" video on this page; that's my first time singing on mic in front of people - totally screwed up the 2nd verse LOL.
Then I started a duet with a wonderful singer & person, Andrea O. We billed ourselves as The Human Resources since we both worked in HR at WRAL, playing Patsy Cline and Loretta Lynn songs.
The White Falcon was getting a workout. Mike S literally fulfilled his dream where he formed a Christian rock band, Method33. We stayed together for two years playing a large variety of places such as Apex's Peak Festival. A flyer from our show at Java Divine is in the photo section (featuring Sarah R who I ended up playing duets with as "Mama Tried").
I went to Nashville and auditioned for "Can You Duet?" with Jamey B in 2009.
So now it's onto other things. I'm still at FVUMC, had my own CSN&Y cover band, Long Time Gone for 4 years, and am now recording original material. And the White Falcon is getting more use than ever. Follow your dreams and make it happen...
