Club d'Elf plays a style of music that has been called "Moroccan-dosed dub-trance-jazz", and draws upon electronica, Moroccan Gnawa music, free jazz, hip-hop & funk to create a heady, danceable mix. Based in Boston (and recipient of the 2007 Boston Music Award for Outstanding Jazz Act) & lead by bassist Mike Rivard, the group features a rotating ensemble with special guests, including John Medeski, DJ Logic, Skerik, Mat Maneri, Hassan Hakmoun, the late Mark Sandman of Morphine, and many others. Having developed its own unique sound over the 12 years of its existence, the band's music is nonetheless sometimes compared to The Cinematic Orchestra, electric Miles Davis, Moroccan Berber music & Remain In Light-era Talking Heads. The band is preparing to release it's tenth CD in the April. Entitled Dos, it comprises two separate albums: Electric Moroccoland and So Below, representing two distinct sides of the groups sound: Moroccan trance and funky electronica/DJ-driven beats.
