The band, The Bad Parts, was started in July of 2009 by long time friends James Burns and Christopher Garcia, both from North Bergen, NJ.
James, being a long time fan of ska and punk rock wanted to add a horn player to the mix. John Sequiera, also from North Bergen, was asked to join the band and jumped at the opportunity. He had played with Chris and James in a salsa band called Son Mundo. At this time, Billy Van Clief, who was the lead guitarist for the band Undying Sacrifice and from North Bergen also was asked to join the band as the lead guitarist. Now only needing a bassist, Charles Potenza, who knew Chris from attending Rutgers University together joined to complete the full band.
The band began practicing tirelessly in Chris's garage to the point where they were kicked out due to increasing the electric bill too much. They began playing shows in Jersey City and then branching out into other areas including venues in New York City. At this point, Billy had to move to Texas for his family and the band was left with four members, which is how they stand today.
The band has played over 50 live shows and have opened for large acts including Fishbone, Joey Ramone of The Ramones, The Pietasters, and many more. They have also played a set on the Vans Warped Tour and performed at the Studio at Webster Hall in 2011.
They have yet to record a full CD, but have a large library of a wide variety of songs mixing alternative, reggae, punk, ska, and even elements of hip hop. Almost all of their songs are original, but they do perform uniquely styled covers from bands including Muse, The Killers, The Pixies, and many more.
Even in the turmoil of today's music industry, the band has managed to stay together through ups and downs due to a common love for music and hope to have a bright future.
