I began studying drumkit at 18 at the Newpark Music Centre, later attending the Drummers Collective in New York, where my teachers were Kim Plainfield and Bobby Sanabrias; previous teachers have included Ralph Peterson, Jeff Ballard, Matt Wilson, Ben Perowsky and Keith Copeland, Elliot Zigmund.
I achieved a Certificate in Contemporary Music Studies from the Newpark Music Centre & a Diploma in Jazz Performance from the Guildhall School Hall of Music in London and received a Scholarship to Berklee College of Music in Boston, USA.
In recent years I have been fortunate to have performed and recorded with International jazz musicians: Time Ries (Saxophone) Ronnie Cuber (Saxophone) Guy Barker (Trumpet} Jim Mullen (guitar), Bobby Watson (alto), Bill Carrothers (Piano) Jason Rigby (Sax) Jesse Davis (Sax), Brian Kelloch (Piano) Giovanni Mirabassi (Piano) Ulf Wakenius (Guitar) Sigur Flossasen (Alto Sax) Kjeld Lauritsen (B3 Organ), Ronan Guilfoyle (Bass).I am currently working with Choice Award Nominee Dave Geraghty (BellX1) & Tadhg Cooke.
I have performed Worldwide at some of the leading jazz festivals including: Copenhagen Jazz Fest, North Sea Jazz Fest, Glasgow Jazz Fest, Euro Jazz Fest – Mexico & The Cork Jazz Festival. I have also conducted & co-ordinated many masterclasses & workshops in all the major Universities in Ireland. In 2010, I was invited to be a guest lecturer on improvisation skills at the Nelson Mandela University in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.
I am a founding member of the International group Palooka which is currently working on its’ debut album release for late 2011.
In 2008, I became an endorsed artist for Bosphorus Cymbals and in 2010 I was endorsed by U.S. drumstick manufacture Vater. In the last four years I began to lead my own piano trio featuring the U.S. pianist Bill Carrothers and have released two critically acclaimed albums Worldwide with Jazz Record label Fresh Sound Records.
