A wandering singer-songwriter from West Virginia living in East Nashville. The name comes from a road sign far from home.
Wilbur By The Sea is the introspective musing of singer-songwriter Sean Knisely, whose love of music began with playing Nintendo and watching Ghostbusters as a child before progressing into home recording and obsessions with the Beatles and Radiohead.
After years of fronting electronic rock act Attack Flamingo in West Virginia, the combination of constant Elliott Smith albums and a broken engagement brought on an especially intense season of identity-searching, healing, re-direction, and cathartic songwriting. A more vulnerable indie acoustic style emerged, maintaining the layering of organic and electronic elements, and Knisely began traveling the Northeast with new music and a fresh, adventurous outlook. The road eventually led to East Nashville, where Knisely also plays guitar for indie rock four-piece Coyotes in Boxes.
The name Wilbur By The Sea comes from a road sign far from home, a token of early journeys in life that sparked the desire to travel as a musician in the first place.
